In the beauty of night
Her silent screams are deafening
Yet still unheard
Asleep are we
Darkness swallows her tears
As she cries for humanity
In the depth of her heart
The emptiness rumbles fiercely
Imploring love to replete
Ignorant are we
The cold night air makes her shiver
Lost and alone is she
Her illuminated spirit sighs
The burden of prescience weighs heavily
Rooted in past atrocities
Consumed are we
The white satin linen on her bare skin
The last virgin remainder
Of innocence
And purity
And still she cries. © Saskia Jonker, 2018
