The Old Man in the Sky
He flew away in a balloon.
His Son did say.
It's kind of colorful, in a way.
The Balloon, not the man.
Said he needed to find the answers in life that kept passing him by.
He was sure they could be found from way up high.
So, the old man, early to rise, filled the magnificent balloon with the best helium money could buy.
He needed the answers and needed to know why.
His wife and family could only say that they, too, saw him float away.
And watching with a telescope, his son did spy the old man flying high.
His smile was wide but seemed to fade as his Father did into the midnight haze.
Seven years later a note was found, sitting on an Island ground.
In a bottle, this message did say:.
“I have flown high, I have flown far, but all I have seen were battle scars.
A broken Earth was all I found.
In every place, love was replaced with hate, bickering, and envy, with everyone seeming an enemy.
Broken hearts that shed no tears. Broken lives throughout the years.
And a broken people, too.
Not a single one of them seeming to know what to do.
But I know what I will do.
I will fly forever for the answers I pine.
For in all my world travels, I have yet to find an unselfish
love for all mankind”.
The old man was never found.
And for the old man?
Earth found no ground.
