The Flame
The searing heat, so hot, surrounding left and right. Cannot move, no way to fight. Death surrounded me, for I had seen, as scorching flames, came closer to me.
The flames grew, near as he came, so ancient, so old was this game. His jaws opened, he bared his sharp teeth, now, his flames were timed, just barely out of reach.
He teased, he taunted, so fierce in my mind, Could not help, but see him, his flames, that could blind. I kick, and I scream, I try to run, But this beast that surrounds, is having such fun.
My back, now against the dampness of the cave, Proved to be, a very big mistake. I prayed. Please, someone, come take me away, before his fiery breath, once again escapes.
No one to hear my cries, no one around, tonight was the church social, everyone was in town. Who would venture up near these caves, they were forbidden, they were not safe.
I cried, and I begged, flames spread here and there, someone please, would you awaken me from this nightmare? There. There he was. He crept in the shadows so easily. A knight in shining armor, come to rescue me.
Crash of thunder, I awoke with a start, for in each nightmare,
he took part. He was always there, to keep me from harm,
and always there to warn.
I snuggled back under the covers, for in my dreams, I would fear nothing, for he was with me.
Someday, I'll see him, we'll meet face to face,
And all my nightmares will be erased.
He will come, I know he will, for in my heart, this, I feel.
