Cynthia, this is a great example of how our minds can send us in a whirlwind of perplexity and confusion, however, perhaps that is what this mysterious thing called 'life' is all about. Searching, discovering, finding, learning, and growing, hopefully, to understand our purpose and ultimately walk into our destiny. This is evocatively intense!
Donald, there is no average time, sometimes a Poem comes to mind and i write it immediately, other times i get an idea but it may take days to finish it.
However i'm not into changing for the sake of changing so once done, i post and see what happens.

There is no wrong or right.
Very good Cynthia.
Question for all you poets...
How long does it take you to write these poems you post?
I ask because I am thinking that maybe i should take longer and make better use and choice of words.
I am usually done in less than 5 minutes. If nothing comes to mind right away, then i don't write.
Been there done that... EVERYDAY!!
My mind goes haywire in every way
I think of good things but mostly bad
All of these things make me so sad
My mind races like a pinball machine
All my thoughts both dirty and clean
How do I stop this I wish I knew
But I sit here helpless without a clue
So I wander aimlessly looking for the path
Praying I do not awaken anyone's wrath
So I end this poem with these final words
If it doesn't rhyme, think of something absurd
