His Lady of Fate
The world was in chaos danger loomed,
Massive explosions life’s impending doom.
He ran faster than he ever had before,
Dodging debris, traps, blood and gore.
Screams shattered the darkened earth
Thunder roared from the lands rebirth.
Massive holes dodged, a trip and a fall,
Down, farther down, till he felt nothing at all.
Voices surrounded, anxious and afraid,
Eyes trying to adjust, honey- colored hair in a braid.
Such a beauty she was, and oh such a start,
Beware of the danger, thump, thump spoke his heart.
A war taking place in the land up above,
But down below this world spoke of love.
A safe haven, bunker for a harbor very few knew,
He healed, loved, laughed, she loved him too.
As the war raged and evil spread its wrath
The two walked together down love’s heartfelt path.
Years maybe, and the outside world grieved,
While in the bunker, they were all deceived.
Watched, waiting for the right time to attack,
Leave the others behind, but bring him back.
His thoughts lost he knew not his mind,
No idea of what he searched for what he would find.
Late in the night his world gone to sleep,
He promised her his soul she could keep.
Awakened roughly amid sharp screams,
In the land up above; she had been but a dream.
Blood from his head, a hard hit he took,
His men surrounded him, Doc taking a quick look.
The pulled him to his feet dodged bullets and mines,
Voices echoing you’re running out of time.
So many days, below, but reality only minutes above,
He had not found her, not had a true love.
A dream, unconscious illusion to his brain,
He must unthink her or it would drive him insane.
The patch up place, just a plain old tent among the trees,
Waiting inside were a few medics and volunteer ladies,
Sharpness of breath, she really was a person true,
She looked at him funny when he said I love you.
Fate had brought him to his love though yet she did not know,
So hard to get, but not so hard to hold.
He wooed her, they married, held each other through the war,
So much love. They had an eternity of love and so much more.
They danced in the moonlight, held hands, a true loves bliss,
“Come, my love,” Putting him in his chair, giving him a kiss.
The chair had wheels was just as well, so she could handle it better,’
Though he could no longer talk right, he was glad he met her.
He wished he could tell her he loved her once more,
She sure was still pretty at the age of seventy- four.
She took good care of him and always had, never a doubt,
After all wasn’t peace and love what it was all about?
She stared off into space clutched her chest and fell to the floor,
Sightless eyes, stiff, she was not breathing anymore.
Tears came and never left for she still kept his soul,
She lay in the coffin so deathly still and cold.
“Ashes to ashes, Oh, my heart take me along,
Without your love, your heart, how can I remain strong?
Over fifty years you have been my heart my life,
You have been my soul, my friend, as well as wife.”
He tried to stand, but his legs failed to cooperate,
It really did not matter for it was much too late.
He saw her. She smiled and reached for his hand,
One last breath and he followed her to the Promised Land.
