A million years have passed since I stood and took a breath
Now on the bridge of my ship, I look out to see our new planet , a new home to colonized
It seems just like yesterday when our ship, one of many departed
From our dying planet, the ships went in all directions; ours would leave this ancient galaxy for small young galaxy in nearby space
Here our scientist have detected a small planet in the habitable zone, a new place we can call home
But that was a million years ago, when our planet was engulfed in flames, from our dying Sun
In hibernation we placed ourselves, in cylinders of titanium
For the journey would be long, through quantum fold we did go to a place that bends time and space a dimension where we would fly faster than the speed of light, our ship turns into a flow of dark matter only to reappear in this new space, one million years later
Now our destination is at hand, it’s the third planet from its Sun
The blue green one, with a moon that travels with it
From the bridge I can see snow covered mountain peaks above the clouds
All the crew and passengers, are all excited for this day, yes we have come a long way
As the commander of this group I spoke before them:
We have come a long way from our ancient home, this new land is pure and clean, not like the dirty industrial planet where we came from
It’s my hope and dream that we can live in harmony with this environment
We will be landing soon my friends, a new world to explorer, there is many different types of living things that you will find, this place has abundance of food to share, so no one will be without
Now it’s my duty as your leader, to introduce you to our new world, but before I do let’s say a prayer for the ancient world with left behind Heaven was our world where life lasted several billion years now it’s gone. Welcome everyone this Planet shell be called Earth!
Crossing Alaska. That was a great history lesson. Also a lesson in reality. Yes. There are many ways to interpret this
good job, everyone. A lot of ways to interpret this picture.
Thank you Cyntha
Wonderful Gil. An amazing Sci Fi Story

Great job ladies, both poems are powerful.
Crossing Alaska
The Alaskans of the Copper Valley
lived a hearty, outdoor, Indian life.
They tended the terrain for centuries
defying harsh weather and climate strife.
These Indians knew how to work the land.
They banded together; man, woman and child.
They lived in underground houses while
moose, antelope and reindeer roamed wild.
For most people, Alaska was too far north;
a laughing stock; William Seward’s folly.
The dark, frigid, arctic days of winter
made existence difficult and melancholy.
Summer hikers and tourists visited
as well as school teachers on break.
They’d camp in the Denali Preserve,
under spindly trees they’d fish the lakes.
But scientists and engineers discovered
oil in the massive forty-ninth state.
They built the Trans-Alaska pipeline
to bring fuel to the lower forty-eight.
From Prudhoe Bay to Valdez,
an ugly eyesore crossed the region.
Which changed the way of life for
native creatures and Indian legions.
The frozen land became polluted.
The wilderness, an oil coated abyss.
With poisoned ponds killing the fish,
the ecological balance became amiss.
Because populated states needed energy
and built the pipeline to harness the oil,
the life the native Alaskans knew before
was forever and permanently spoiled.
The Dreams I See
It is weird how my mind dreams,
I am sinking into sand thinking many things.
What my eyes see, my mind does not know,
Afraid to fall into the unknown, but knowing I have to let go.
Adrift in the vastness; humanity lost,
A colorless vision, my mind turned and tossed.
I try to scream but no sound escapes,
Without a voice there are no sounds to make.
Sweat ‘neath my blanket, a crumpled pillow ‘neath my head,
Fighting the demons that slowly invade my bed.
I kick, I flail, I give off a soundless scream,
And awaken to realize it is only a horrible dream.
